cutest thing :) September 6, 2010 fukketteluv my cat loves this :) although he still likes drinking from this bowl in the bathroom, he uses it in the morning. it's really cute.
It's Super September 6, 2010 Ginger123 It is very useful with a houseful of cats and dog.
It is rather cumbersome to fill but that can be overcome.
It does make a vibrating noise on my tile floor. Am
working on a solution.
Worth the money.
What you must know before your cat dies !! September 5, 2010 Renee Ireland (New Jersey) I had a petmate fountain a couple years back and it was to late when I realized the slimy goo that was building up inside the pump motor. I cleaned the fountain on a weekly basis but the problem was hidden inside the one part you're not supposed to take apart. My poor kitty was getting urinary tract infections and within less than a year she went from 12 to 5 pounds and I had to put her to sleep due to kidney failure. It was the most heart wrenching and guilt ridden experience and it still brings me to tears. We are a military family and had just spent the most ridiculous amount of money to bring her home from England. Picture me (suffering from Lupus) with three kids in tow living in a new state with no friends and my husband in Iraq, having to make the decision to put her down. I cannot prove the petmate caused her death but it certainly didn't improve her health. Fresh clean water is so important for any pet but a cat's urinary system is very delicate, especially if they are on a hard food only diet. Right now I am looking into a fountain for my 2 cats and dog so they don't have to rely on my memory (to fill the water bowls). I'm going to try a drinkwell platinum because it has a pre-filter and cleaning tools. Knowing what I know now, when cleaning the fountains, be sure to use your sink sprayer to force out any yuck that may be trapped inside the pump. I'm not looking for sympathy, just realize they're are so many other things in life to worry about that you shouldn't have to wonder if the water bowl is killing your pet!
I like It September 2, 2010 Denny My two cats Harriet And Veronica like this pet mate water fountain. The reservoir is easy to fill and the unit is just fine. I clean my unit monthly. It can be time consuming but it's only twenty minutes of time. I do not get a large amount of cat hair in it. However, I do use regular clorox bleach not any scented types to clean it. I use one tablespoon per gallon of water in a water bucket. Let all the parts except the pump soak for two minutes. Rinse every thing really well and dry with paper towels. Plus use Q Tips to dry where paper towels cannot reach like where the side and bottom of the fountain meet you would not believe the crap you get on the Q tip. Use the Q Tip to clean the track where the filter slides in and any other hard to reach areas.
Decent for the cost September 1, 2010 sandc We purchased this fountain a couple years ago and the pump just died. Rather than buy a new pump for $20, we bought a new fountain for $30. The pump didn't come with one pieces we needed. I imagine we will have to replace this every few years. I am not happy about that, but there doesn't seem to be a better one out there. My cats love the ramp on this one and would not like the other brand that does not have it.
The fountain can be a pain to clean, but it doesn't have to be done everyday. I just use a bottle brush and cotton swabs for hard to reach places. We haven't found the fountain to be loud. The extra tank seems to hold about a days worth of water, someties 2 days.
We have 2 cats that love to drink out of it. It has really helped make them want to drink, which is very good for them. When it broke, the cats didn't want to drink. They love it.
