5 out of 5 stars I've only had it a week or two, but I already love it   September 9, 2010

Let me preface by saying I don't usually write reviews until I've had a product long enough to test it's longevity. That being said, I owned a Canon printer/copier prior to this one that lasted about 10 years. (Copier function still works, but printer drivers do not exist for it with newer operating systems. I needed something compatible with Windows 7.)
I really like the wireless feature of the MX870, though that was the most difficult part about setting up the printer. (Setup was well-explained in the manual; however, we needed the printer's MAC address in order to allow it on our router/network and that was not part of the setup instructions. Once we found it, setup was smooth sailing.)
The print quality is great on both printer and copier. Copier is slightly less "clean" on the edges, but I think that's true of most copiers and it still produces a nice, crisp copy. The difference is barely noticeable. Color copies are very true to original, in my opinion. The MX870 is fast and works nicely on duplex setting.
Ink cartridges are very small, so I am anxious to see how many prints I can get out of the cartridges before needing to replace them.
The unit is large, but manageable. I recommend taking note of size specifications and measuring the area you plan to keep it in. It's bigger than it looks in the pictures.
So far I have yet to use the scanner and fax properties. Will update this review when I've had it longer and can attest to these issues.

5 out of 5 stars Very Functional Printer   September 5, 2010

I've had this printer a few weeks now and I am very happy. The picture quality is excellent - MUCH better than my HP Photosmart 2710 All-In-One. I had read in another review that the document quality was poor but that has not been my experience - my documents look good. I REALLY like the duplex feature. Other reviewers seemed to have had trouble getting this feature to work. I haven't had any problems - just select duplex in the print menu and it does it automatically. This printer IS a little slow. Out of the box, it seemed really slow but some tweeking in the menu has sped it up enough for me. If you need to print large quantities quickly, then this probably isn't the printer for you. I am a teacher and I print a lot of stuff for school and the speed of the printer has been nothing more than a minor nuisance. This printer is also a little on the big side but I think that is due to it having 3 paper feeds which is actually a good thing. You can have regular paper and photo paper loaded at the same time and the printer will automatically select the right one - you don't have to keep switching paper! It also has a top feed for the scan/copy function that will feed multiple sheets and correlate & duplex from that function as well. The printer also runs very quietly compared to my HP. I am not sure why others had problems with setup. It seemed easy - I had no trouble and was able to connect wirelessly to my network with no problems. Overall, I am VERY happy with this printer and would recommend it without reservation.

5 out of 5 stars Finally! An AIO that just works!   September 4, 2010

I bought this to replace an Officejet 8500 Pro that wouldn't fit on my new desk shelving. Since I was used to the way things worked with the HP, I was worried that I'd have a bit of trouble adjusting to the new. Nonsense. Everything worked straight out of the box. Even setup was flawless. The only major difference was I have to use the Canon application to scan, where the HP had TWAIN/WIA drivers and I could scan directly into Photoshop. This is no biggie, however. Just thought I'd mention it.

WiFi setup was a breeze! All I had to do was connect the 870 to the router via the front control panel, then run the software on the computer. Canon is LIGHTYEARS above HP in this aspect. HP software is quite annoying at times.

Print and scan quality are top notch just as you would expect from Canon.

The only negatives, which admittedly are very minor, are 1.) Having to use the Canon app to scan and 2.)Speed. While it's not painfully slow, it takes a while to print once awakened from sleep.

I have put this AIO through its paces and can definitely recommend this to anyone!

i bought this printer 2 months ago, and i can say it is a really nice machine. it easy to set up and you can make copies, scan, print and much more. it serve it purpose right. it is good for home not for office, also the quality of printing is really nice. You have color and black-white printer but overall it's product worth it money.
